If you're new to MUCS and wondering who we are and what we do, you are welcome to come along to a rehearsal and get to know us!
There are no formal auditions for student members, although some music-reading ability or previous musical experience is recommended and is a definite advantage.
MUCS is also open to staff, MU alumni, non MU students, and interested members of the wider community who want to sing in a quality choir. In rare cases, non-students may be asked to demonstrate a reasonable standard to ensure they are able to cope with the general standard of the choir, but all MU students are welcome to join with no audition.
MUCS prides itself on the quality of its performances, and the dedication of its members. All singers wishing to perform must attend a reasonable number of rehearsals, to ensure that they can perform to an acceptable standard. If members are not able to attend enough regular weekly rehearsals (usually around 75%) they may be asked not to perform, or to audition for the conductor to demonstrate their ability to handle the repertoire being performed.
For further information about joining MUCS or the musical aspect of joining, please feel free to email Andrew Wailes at conductor@mucs.org.au or contact the committee.
MUCS is one of Melbourne's cheapest choirs to join! There is a special heavy discount for full-time Melbourne University students, as well as other full -time students and Commonwealth Concession Card holders.
For first time student members it is only $25 to join for the whole year (and even cheaper during O'week)!
That equates to less than 50 cents a session!!
PLEASE NOTE THAT FROM 2023, ALL NEW MUCS MEMBERS WILL NEED TO JOIN UP VIA THE UMSU (University of Melbourne Student Union) Clubs and Societies website. This system is not yet fully operational at the time of writing.
